Position Overview:
CMW Global, a world-class welding, fabricating, machining and refurbishment company for nearly 50 years, is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mechanical Engineer with a strong background in the defense industry, including expertise in welding and machining. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical knowledge, familiarity with defense and manufacturing standards, and a passion for developing innovative mechanical solutions for mission-critical systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, analyze, and validate mechanical components and systems for defense-related applications (e.g., aerospace, ground vehicles, naval systems).
- Lead and contribute to product development from concept through production, ensuring compliance with military specifications and standards (MIL-STD, ASME, AWS, NAVSEA).
- Develop and review welding procedures and specifications in accordance with NAVSEA, AWS, ASME Section IX, and MIL-STD-278.
- Provide technical guidance on machining processes, tolerances, and material selection for precision components.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including electrical, systems, and manufacturing engineers to ensure seamless integration.
- Prepare detailed engineering documentation including drawings, BOMs, and technical reports.
- Support testing, troubleshooting, and field deployment of mechanical systems.
- Ensure designs meet reliability, maintainability, and safety requirements.
- Interface with government clients and contractors to support project goals and compliance.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- Minimum of 5–8 years of mechanical engineering experience, with at least 3 years in the defense industry.
- Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks and/or Fusion 360).
- Hands-on experience with welding processes (GMAW, GTAW, SMAW) and machining operations (CNC, manual).
- Familiarity with GD&T, FEA, and ASME guidelines.
- Experience with defense acquisition processes and documentation.
- Active security clearance or ability to obtain one is preferred.
- Strong communication and project management skills.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with DoD programs or prime defense contractors.
- Knowledge of ITAR, DFARS, and other regulatory frameworks.
- Lean manufacturing or Six Sigma certification is a plus.
- Experience with weld inspection techniques and NDT (VT, PT, MT, RT).
- Experience with inspection tooling and techniques. (Micrometers, calipers, verniers, etc.)
