From Phosphate Mines to Global Manufacturing: CMW Global’s Roots in the Mining Industry

Carver Machine Works (CMW Global) was founded in 1976 as we began work with our first major customer; a local phosphate mining and chemical processing facility within the mining industry. This work shaped the company’s expertise in precision machining and equipment refurbishment.

Over the decades, CMW Global has grown from local beginnings to an internationally recognized leader in the precision manufacturing, equipment refurbishment, and custom fabrication space. Being an expert in the mining industry has changed since our start in 1976; it takes top-of-the-line machinery with skilled craftsmen who know how to position and weld discrete parts so they are crafted within a few thousandths of an inch of accuracy. And those experts need high-end tools like horizontal boring mills with capabilities far above industry standards. That’s what you’ll find today at CMW Global.

Our expertise in the precision machining industry has shaped our understanding of the unique challenges faced by mining operations: equipment operating under extreme conditions, the need for rapid response to minimize downtime, and the critical importance of precision and the right metallurgy in high-wear environments.

We know that phosphate mining presents particularly demanding conditions for equipment. The extraction and processing of phosphate rock involves aggressive materials that cause significant wear on machinery components. Mining operations require equipment that can handle abrasive materials, corrosive environments, and the constant demands of 24/7 production schedules..

Technical Expertise Forged in Mining Applications

The mining industry’s demanding requirements helped shape CMW Global’s core competencies that continue to serve the sector today. The company has amassed four decades’ worth of drawings and dimensions associated with all types of industrial equipment, with particular expertise in rotating machinery, pressure vessels, and components that require resistance to abrasion, corrosion, and high-temperature environments.

Equipment Refurbishment and Repair

Mining operations rely heavily on rotating equipment: pumps, blowers, mixers, and various processing machinery that must operate reliably in harsh conditions. CMW Global’s equipment refurbishment services utilize soft-bearing balancing systems capable of handling parts up to six feet in diameter and weighing up to 5,000 pounds, employing both static and dual-plane dynamic balancing to reduce vibration, extend bearing life, and reduce structural stresses.

The company’s welding and fabrication capabilities are particularly relevant to mining operations. Our proven weld build-up practices effectively restore worn areas from fluid cavitation, excessive vibration, abrasion, and general wear (common issues in mining equipment) followed by precision machining to restore components to original dimensions.

Advanced Materials and Certifications

Mining equipment often requires specialized materials that can withstand harsh operating conditions. CMW Global maintains extensive certifications including NADCAP, NAVSEA, ASME “U” and National Board “R” stamps, allowing us to build and repair critical equipment including pressure-rated vessels. Our extensive experience with high-grade alloys and materials that provide corrosion and abrasion resistance with high-temperature capabilities make us a trusted expert in the field.

Modern Mining Industry Applications

Today’s mining operations can benefit from CMW Global’s comprehensive service offerings in several key areas:

Critical Component Manufacturing and Repair

The company provides expertise in manufacturing, refurbishment, and repair of tanks, agitators, reactors, dryers, columns, pumps, and mixers—all essential components in modern mining and mineral processing operations.

Pressure Vessel Services

Mining operations frequently require pressure vessels for various processing applications. CMW Global’s ASME certifications enable them to fabricate new pressure vessels and repair existing ones to strict industry standards.

Emergency Response Capabilities

Mining operations cannot afford extended downtime, and CMW Global’s “Accelerated Response Team” approach ensures rapid response when production equipment fails. Our seasoned craftsmen excel in welding, machining, and mechanical assembly with the speed and quality that mining operations demand.

Global Reach with Local Mining Heritage

CMW Global’s reputation for superior quality and fast response led to their first international customer, building titanium processing equipment and distributing it throughout the globe. This international expansion demonstrates how expertise developed in local mining operations can translate to global industrial applications.

The company’s facility reflects its commitment to handling the large-scale components common in mining operations. Their 72,000 square feet of manufacturing space features 24-feet under hook clearance with the ability to lift 30 tons, making it well-suited for the heavy equipment components typical in mining applications.

Future-Ready Mining Solutions

As the mining industry continues to evolve with increasing automation, environmental requirements, and efficiency demands, CMW Global’s foundational expertise in equipment reliability and performance optimization positions them well to serve modern mining operations. Our decades of experience with high-wear, process-critical equipment remain highly relevant to today’s mining challenges.

The company’s commitment to quality, rapid response, and technical innovation, forged in the demanding world of mining operations, continues to serve industries worldwide.

For mining operations seeking reliable partners for equipment fabrication, refurbishment, and emergency repair services, CMW Global offers not just technical capabilities, but the deep understanding of mining industry challenges that can only come from decades of hands-on experience in the sector.
